Beijing Printing Standards Review: 27 Terminated, 29 to Be Revised

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News

A printing standards review meeting has been held in Beijing, drawing more than 30 experts and scholars from across China. The meeting concluded that 27 standards—25 industry standards and 2 national standards—will be discontinued.

From September 22–25, 2013, the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC170) convened the Printing Standards Review Work Meeting in Beijing under the unified arrangements of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the Standardization Administration of China. More than 30 experts and scholars from different regions took part across the four-day session, with Cai Jingsheng, a researcher-level official from the Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, attending to provide guidance. The review covered 82 printing-related national standards and press and publication industry standards that were more than five years old, re-evaluating their applicability. It confirmed that 23 standards (12 industry and 11 national) remain valid; 4 national standards remain valid with modifications; 29 standards (13 industry and 16 national) require revision; and 27 standards (25 industry and 2 national) are terminated.

This meeting marked the first systematic review of existing standards since SAC/TC170 was established in 1991. Following the meeting, SAC/TC170 will use the conclusions to revise the 29 standards in stages over the coming years. As a result of the review, the nearly 30 retained printing-related standards are expected to be more streamlined, while future standards projects will place greater emphasis on practicality and applicability.
