Guangdong Releases Local Standard DB44/T1175-2013 for Shaftless High-Speed Gravure Printing Presses, Effective November 24, 2013

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News

Standards are often the foundation for orderly industrial upgrading. Guangdong has approved and issued its local standard for shaftless high-speed gravure printing presses, with an approval and release date of August 24, 2013. The standard is numbered DB44/T1175-2013 and is scheduled to take effect across the province on November 24, 2013.

The document was jointly drafted by the Guangdong Province Film and Paper Printing Industry Association, Guangdong Shanzhang Light Industry Machinery Co., Ltd., Chaozhou Caida Packaging Machinery Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Yuexiu District Yanren Machinery Technology Research Center. It received provincial approval and release on August 24, 2013 under number DB44/T1175-2013, and will be implemented province-wide starting November 24, 2013.

In gravure printing, the image is formed directly on the plate cylinder; ink can be supplied by dipping or transferred by an ink transfer roller, after which text and images are printed. The machine is commonly built around six core sections—unwinding, infeed, printing, drying, outfeed, and rewinding—while its overall system can also include unwinding, infeed, printing, drying, cooling, outfeed, rewinding, registration, image inspection, and tension microcomputer control. A shaftless configuration means each color station has its own servo motor; a central control system manages the corresponding servo drives, which in turn control the servo motors of each gravure unit, keeping all color stations accurately synchronized.

Under DB44/T1175-2013, high speed refers to a printing speed of no less than 250 meters per minute for web-fed substrates such as plastic film and aluminum foil. The standard's technical work is administered by the Guangdong Provincial Technical Committee for Standardization of Film Printing Equipment, GD/TC64.

Over the past two to three decades, high-speed gravure presses developed by Chinese enterprises have been used to print film bags, paper boxes, and other products with high-quality results. These film bags and paper boxes support sectors such as food, daily necessities, and computers, helping protect, enhance, store, transport, sell, and use the packaged products. With provincial guidance, the Guangdong Province Film and Paper Printing Industry Association, Guangdong Shanzhang Light Industry Machinery Co., Ltd., Chaozhou Caida Packaging Machinery Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Yuexiu District Yanren Machinery Technology Research Center took an active part in shaping this local standard, using equipment and management specifications to encourage technical progress and higher quality levels.

The standard defines terminology and definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, labels, instruction manuals, packaging, transportation, and storage for shaftless high-speed gravure printing presses. Its requirements cover the working environment, service performance, assembly precision, microcomputer control system, quality of main parts and components, overall machine operating quality, mechanical safety, electrical safety, and appearance quality. It applies to shaftless high-speed gravure printing machines (referred to in the standard as gravure printing machines) used for printing web-fed plastic film, aluminum foil (including 40g/m²–90g/m² web paper), other film materials, and paper; mechanically shaft-driven gravure presses and other similar machines may refer to it.
