Zhanjiang Fire Safety Campaign Exposes Carton Maker Suixi Guangming Packaging Over Occupied Fire Separation Distance

To strengthen social fire prevention and control in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, and keep the city’s fire safety situation stable, departments at all levels in Zhanjiang recently launched a coordinated fire safety enforcement inspection campaign. The Zhanjiang Fire and Rescue Detachment is also publicly naming units and premises with fire hazards to push for rectification. Among those named is a local Class II carton factory, Suixi Guangming Packaging Co., Ltd., which was exposed for fire safety hazards.

Public records show that Suixi Guangming Packaging Co., Ltd. was established on March 23, 2017. Its business scope covers production and sales of paper products, packaging materials, corrugated paperboard, and rubber products, as well as printing of packaging and decorative printed matter and other printed matter.

A fire separation distance is the safe distance between buildings. During a fire, it can help stop flames from spreading and reduce fire losses. Such distances are generally designed to allow fire trucks to pass through smoothly, often about 7 meters. Under Article 28 of the Fire Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China, no unit or individual may damage, misappropriate, arbitrarily dismantle, or deactivate fire protection facilities and equipment; bury, enclose, or obstruct fire hydrants; or occupy fire separation distances. The law also prohibits occupying, blocking, or closing evacuation passages, safety exits, or fire truck access routes, and bars obstacles on doors and windows of crowded premises that could impede escape, firefighting, and rescue.

Turning a fire separation distance to other uses can, in the event of a fire, cause severe harm to businesses and employees and lead to serious losses.
