SWOP 2021 Shanghai Packaging Expo to Open in November, Spotlighting Smart Processing and Full-Chain Packaging Solutions

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News

SWOP World of Packaging (Shanghai) 2021 is scheduled for November 23-25 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Organized by Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., the event is positioned as Asia's leading processing and packaging machinery exhibition. It serves terminal sectors including food, beverages, desserts, baked goods, pharmaceuticals, personal care, non-food consumer goods and industrial products, while offering a broad trade platform for processing and packaging machinery manufacturers and packaging material producers.

With a focus on artificial intelligence, printing, e-commerce and logistics packaging, personalized packaging and packaging design, SWOP continues to build an all-round packaging industry chain display platform. Its scope spans packaging material production and processing, primary packaging, secondary packaging, packaging material production and processing machinery, packaging printing, food and beverage processing and packaging, pharmaceutical and cosmetics processing and packaging, non-food consumer goods processing and packaging, packaging materials and containers, packaging products and packaging design. The show presents innovative packaging solutions and intelligent processing and packaging production lines.

As part of the interpack alliance, SWOP integrates international resources. SWOP 2019 used new industry trends, ideas and technologies to preview interpack 2020. That edition covered more than 60,000 square meters, hosted 701 exhibitors and attracted 25,193 professional visitors from home and abroad. Exhibitors came from 13 countries and regions, including China, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, China Hong Kong and China Taiwan. Pioneering companies such as HP, Hoyo, Demag, Hangzhou Zhongya, Hualian Machinery, Yongchuang, Berry Elite and Tongchan Lixing (in no particular order) appeared together, showcasing packaging manufacturing trends toward intelligence, integration, personalization and environmental friendliness.

For the FMCG supply chain ecosystem, SWOP partnered with Packaging Home, which has more than 1,200 FMCG industry members, for the third time to create the FMCG Theme Hall in Hall N3. The hall highlights packaging containers and packaging consumables, and its scale grew again compared with the previous edition, with more than 200 exhibitors and over 10,000 square meters of display space. The participation of the Shaoxing Shangyu District Cosmetics Packaging Industry Association added further momentum. The FMCG Theme Hall gives packaging end users a platform to view quality products and engage in cross-field exchange, helping enhance brand competitiveness; it is also one of SWOP's competitive highlights as packaging materials and products draw more attention in terminal markets.

SWOP 2019 also featured a rich slate of concurrent events, with many themed zones and forums inspired by interpack. SAVE FOOD, jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., appeared in the dual format of a themed exhibition and a summit forum. At the summit forum on November 26, guests from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Toppan Printing Shanghai, VDMA, AMETEK MOCON, Multivac and Tsinghua University's Anti-Hunger Maker Workshop shared how innovative packaging materials and technologies can extend food shelf life and reduce food loss and waste. These approaches can lower production costs for companies and contribute to environmental protection for society.

In packaging design, SWOP cooperated with SIVAPACK, the renowned Packaging Communication Design program at Shanghai Visual Arts Institute, to hold the “Generation Z, New Future” SIVAPACK Portfolio Design Exhibition and the “Insight of the New Era” International Design Summit Forum. Generation Z generally refers to the generation born between the mid-1990s and the 2000s and is seen as the market's new future. In an intensifying “new era” of brand competition, the events start from packaging design and use innovative thinking, business insight and consumer understanding to help companies and end users capture opportunities.

SWOP World of Packaging (Shanghai) has received strong support from nearly 60 food, personal care, plastics, printing and packaging-related industry associations at home and abroad. At the previous edition, the show welcomed 201 association visiting delegations, with more than 10,000 people.
