Suzhou Paper-Plastic Packaging Plant Fire Lasts Over 10 Hours; Imported Corrugating Line Severely Damaged

In the early morning hours of August 23, a fire broke out at a paper-plastic packaging plant in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Video footage from the scene showed heavy smoke rolling out as flames illuminated much of the factory compound. Local fire crews sent more than 30 fire engines to the site, where the response lasted over ten hours.

Residents nearby said the company mainly manufactures paper-plastic and other combustible products, which helps explain the intense blaze and prolonged burning. The business involved is Suzhou Hengshun Paper & Plastic Co., Ltd. According to Tianyancha, its main operations include paper packaging and related businesses.

The Beijing News, citing video information from Taiping Subdistrict in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, reported that by 10:00 on August 23 the fire had been brought under control. No casualties were reported, while the cause and property damage remain under investigation.

Industry sources noted that the plant was among China's earlier corrugated board producers to install a 2.8-meter Fosber corrugating line. With annual output value in the hundreds of millions, it is a large integrated maker of corrugated board and cartons. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The company's website states that Suzhou Hengshun Paper & Plastic Co., Ltd. was established in July 1997. It is a modern private enterprise focused on high-end corrugated board and carton packaging, offering household electronics customers complete high-end carton packaging solutions and one-stop production from inner boxes to outer cartons.

The site also lists more than 150 mu of land, 70,000 square meters of plant space, and hundreds of employees. Recognized as an advanced enterprise in technological transformation and upgrading in Xiangcheng District, the company operates one 2.2M-wide five-layer corrugated board line and one 1.8M-wide seven-layer line from Taiwan's Hsieh Hsu, plus a 2.8M-wide corrugated board line from Italy's Fosber. Its equipment includes two high-end fully automatic four-color printers, four semi-automatic printers, one 1600*3200 large-format carton printer, two high-speed automatic die-cutters, and a full set of back-end carton machinery. This allows production of high-end corrugated board in various flute profiles from three to seven layers while maintaining product quality.
