Long engaged in research on processing and modification of biodegradable materials, functional polymer films, micro-nano composite materials, and surface engineering of polymer materials. From a molecular structure-activity perspective, he proposed a new design and application approach for macromolecular nucleating agents used in biodegradable polyesters. He has published more than 50 papers, including over 20 in SCI journals such as Macromolecules, Polymer, and Langmuir. He has published 2 monographs and 1 translated work. He has led or participated in multiple sub-topics of National Key R&D Program projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, Beijing Natural Science Foundation projects, Ministry of Science and Technology special projects, and commissioned enterprise projects. In 2010, he received the second prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award.

For many years, he has taken part in standardization technical research in packaging and the environment, and has led or participated in drafting the GB/T 16716 series of national standards on packaging and the environment. He has represented China multiple times at meetings of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the Asian Packaging Federation (APF), and the ISO TC122/SC4 Subcommittee on Packaging and the Environment. He also contributed to compiling Ministry of Commerce export commodity technical guides, including 'Technical Guide for Export Commodities: EU Commodity Packaging.'

Starting from October 19, 2019, Huayin, together with the China Export Commodity Packaging Research Institute, will launch nationwide lecture tour conferences on green and environmentally friendly packaging, with the first stop in Qingdao, Shandong.
