Packaging Industry Update: Cotton Packaging National Standard Review in Beijing Aims to Regulate New Packaging Materials Market

Beijing hosted the “Cotton Packaging” national standard review meeting on December 8, 2012. The standard was proposed by the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and is administered by the National Technical Committee for Cotton Processing Standardization; its revision had spanned more than two years. Review experts came from the China Fiber Inspection Bureau, China Cotton Association, China Cotton Textile Association, Transportation and Economics Research Institute of the China Academy of Railway Sciences, National Plastic Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Beijing Institute of Commercial Machinery, National Cotton Exchange, Jinan Textile Science Research Institute, Zhengzhou Cotton and Hemp Processing Machinery Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, and Handan Jinshi Cotton Machinery Co., Ltd., as well as other organizations.

The revision was grounded in practical verification and responds to the need to further deepen reform of the cotton quality inspection system. It reflects current realities in cotton processing and circulation while aligning with prevailing practices. These changes are conducive to technological progress and sustainable development in cotton processing, to the growth of modern cotton logistics, to regulating the new packaging materials market, to ensuring cotton quality, and to strengthening the competitiveness of China's cotton industry.

Speaking from an industry standardization standpoint, Yang Rong, Director of the Science and Education Department of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, first affirmed the work achieved by the National Technical Committee for Cotton Processing Standardization since its establishment. Director Yang also emphasized the important role of the “Cotton Packaging” national standard in cotton processing, warehousing, transportation, and trading. The release and implementation of this standard will help raise the overall technical level of China's cotton processing machinery and equipment and improve processing quality and efficiency.
