New-Car Cabin Air: Remove Plastic Packaging Film Early to Reduce Exposure

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News · Source: China Packaging Network

After buying a new car, owners usually focus on driving precautions for the break-in period. At the same time, they are advised to remove unnecessary items from the cabin as early as possible, especially plastic film. This is because many materials used in new-car interior trim and seats contain benzene-based carcinogens. A new car is like a freshly painted home—it needs extended ventilation to dissipate odors and lower the concentration of toxic substances in cabin air. Yet some owners miss one point: seat packaging film itself also releases harmful substances.

In terms of material origin, plasticized products including vehicle interior trim are refined from petroleum. Petroleum is a mixture of many organic chemicals, and its components are generally harmful to human health. During storage after leaving the factory or during transport, a new car is exposed to the sun, which raises the cabin temperature. Higher temperatures make plastic products inside more active and cause them to release harmful substances; plastic packaging film is described as the more active 'terrorist' among them.

While driving a new car, opening the windows for ventilation appears to be the only way to remove toxins. If weather and environmental conditions permit, windows should be opened as much as possible to exchange the cabin air. However, if plastic packaging film is not promptly cleared from the car, it will not only keep releasing harmful gases but also block packaged components from releasing theirs, ultimately reducing the benefit of ventilation.

In addition, while opening the windows, the air conditioner's natural air mode can also be turned on, which is better for cabin air circulation. But do not set the air volume too high, so as not to increase the operating load on the new car.
