GAPP Approves Two Printing Standards, Effective on Release

The General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has approved the release of two printing industry standards: CY/T92—2013, Requirements and Test Methods for Adhesive Bonding Process Control of Paperboard Children's Books, and CY/T93—2013, Quality Requirements and Inspection Methods for Technical Printing Self-Adhesive Labels. Both new standards take effect on the date they were released.

A Beijing packaging company reported that the domestic Printing Standardization Technical Committee convened the founding meeting of the drafting group for that paperboard children's book bonding standard on Feb. 23, 2011, in Heshan, Guangdong. Over ten experts and technical personnel from Heshan, Dongguan and Zhuhai attended. The meeting settled the makeup of drafting organizations, created the drafting team and appointed the lead writer.

Since gift-box books at that time were mainly children's books, the meeting selected paperboard children's books as the core research target for the bonding process control standard. The standard was titled Requirements and Test Methods for Adhesive Bonding Process Control of Paperboard Children's Books. Participants held broad discussions on the standard framework, content, raw materials, testing methods and technical matters. The drafting group aimed to finish its first draft by the end of June 2011. Its first working meeting was scheduled for July 2011 in Zhuhai, with strong support from Heshan.

The Heshan packaging company is among eight printing standardization experimental base enterprises in the printing field. After co-establishing the National Packaging Printing Standardization Research and Technology Promotion Base with the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC170) in 2006, it has committed substantial manpower and material resources to the development and completion of three national standards: Process Control and Testing Methods for Laminating Paper Printed Matter Part 3: Water-Based Adhesive Immediate-Coating Dry Lamination; Graphic Technology - Prepress Digital Data Exchange - Use of PDF Part 1: Complete Exchange of CMYK Data (PDF/X-1 and PDF/X-1a); and Graphic Technology - Prepress Digital Data Exchange - Use of PDF Part 3: Complete Exchange in a Color-Managed Workflow (PDF/X-3), as well as the Table of the Printing Standards System.

Heshan Astros Printing Ltd. is now also taking part in drafting four national standards: Post-Press Binding - Hardcover, Tea Packaging Boxes, Basic Requirements for Post-Press Processing, and Classification of Post-Press Processing Materials.
