FoodPack & ProPak China 2020 to Spotlight Smart Packaging and Processing Equipment in Shanghai

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News

The Shanghai International Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Joint Exhibition will be held on June 22–24, 2020, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). It is organized by the China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association, China Packaging and Food Machinery Co., Ltd., Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co., Ltd., and Hua Han International Conference and Exhibition (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

In 2018, China's packaging industry output reached RMB 1.9 trillion, ranking second worldwide. Under "Made in China 2025," intelligent manufacturing is the core, and advancing smart packaging equipment and processing/packaging production has become a primary direction for China's packaging industry.

Advances in computing, artificial intelligence and related technologies are driving rapid growth in intelligent processing and packaging equipment. China's intelligent automated packaging market is expected to exceed RMB 200 billion by 2023.

The joint exhibition brings together two established industry events: the 20th Shanghai International Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Exhibition (FoodPack China 2020) and the 26th Shanghai International Processing and Packaging Exhibition (ProPak China 2020).

Their first co-location in 2019 was a success, with a total exhibition area of 70,600 sqm. Chinese and international companies from multiple countries and regions exhibited, and 33,713 visitors attended from various countries and regions. All key metrics improved over 2018.

For 2020, the joint exhibition will expand its area and add themed zones addressing intelligent production, smart factories, and intelligent manufacturing standardization. It will comprehensively showcase intelligent automation equipment, industrial robots, factory automation construction, and related technology applications. Concurrent exhibitions will cover health ingredients, food ingredients, nutraceuticals, starch industry, corrugated packaging, and more.

At the previous joint exhibition, 33,713 professional visitors from food, alcohol, beverages, dairy, FMCG, personal care, health, home appliances, 3C, logistics, pharmaceuticals and other manufacturing sectors attended. Some visitors showed strong interest in smart equipment and automation products.

By 2023, China's intelligent processing and packaging market is expected to exceed RMB 200 billion. The joint exhibition will gather nearly 1,000 processing and packaging manufacturers in food and beverage processing and packaging production, many of which have urgent needs to intelligently upgrade existing production systems.

During the 2020 joint exhibition, the China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association, the China Food Industry Internet Alliance and other authoritative organizations will host special forums on intelligent equipment. These will focus on hot topics in the 5G era, including full-process traceability, control systems, and MES systems, and will connect smart equipment manufacturers and automation solution providers with end-user companies for face-to-face exchange.

Exhibits will cover industrial robots and industrial automation (robot bodies, development platforms and software, robot components, manipulators, industrial electrical systems, industrial control systems, FA factory automation parts, transmission and mechanical drive systems and components, electromechanical components and auxiliary equipment); smart warehousing and logistics (AGV automated logistics equipment and systems, logistics storage equipment, goods picking equipment, warehouse peripheral equipment, automated sorting equipment, logistics information technology and equipment, Industry 4.0 smart factory solutions); vision and sensor technology (image processing systems, sensor technology, machine vision integration, smart cameras and accessories, industrial lenses, light sources/boards, machine vision software packages, gratings); and data acquisition and production management (one-item-one-code, online collection, data association, auxiliary accessories).

Past exhibitors in smart equipment include KUKA Robotics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Chenxing (Tianjin) Automation Equipment Co., Ltd., Shanghai Chaifu Robot Co., Ltd., Shanghai JAKA Robotics Co., Ltd., Shenyang SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., Schmalz (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Festo (China) Co., Ltd., Balluff Automation (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Bosch Rexroth China, and GERHARD SCHUBERT GMBH, among others.

Previous end-user buyers include Ajisen, COFCO, Dali, Danone, Master Kong, Shuanghui, Want Want, Yili, Mengniu, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Unilever, P&G, Huawei, JD.com, SF Express, and DHL, covering food, beverages, dairy, personal care, healthcare, electronics, and logistics.
