Drafting Begins in Beijing for Six Green Printing Industry Standards
With environmental awareness steadily increasing, green printing has become a focal point for the printing industry. Recently, work on the 'six green printing industry standards' entered the drafting stage.
On March 3-4, the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee held the founding meeting of the drafting group for the 'six green printing industry standards' at Beijing Dafang Hotel. The meeting launched drafting and formulation of six industry standards: 'General Technical Requirements and Evaluation Methods for Green Printing,' 'Sampling and Sample Preparation Methods for Green Printing Products,' 'Criteria for Conformity Assessment of Green Printing Products - Part 1: Primary and Secondary School Textbooks,' 'Criteria for Conformity Assessment of Green Printing Products - Part 2: Reading Printed Matter,' 'Terminology for Green Printing' and 'Standard System Table for Green Printing.'
More than 50 experts and technical personnel attended, representing the Publication Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of the General Administration of Press and Publication, the National Printing and Decoration Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, the National Paper Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Heshan Astros Printing Co., Ltd., People's Education Press Co., Ltd., the Jiangsu Provincial Publication Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Shandong Quanlin Paper Co., Ltd., Anhui Xinhua Printing Co., Ltd., UPM (China) Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Jinjia Color Printing Group Co., Ltd., Beijing Shengtong Printing Co., Ltd., Shanghai Tobacco Packaging Printing Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Polytechnic, the School of Printing of Qufu Normal University, Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, Beijing Zhongda Huayuan Certification Center, Beijing Dacheng Xinhua Certification Consulting Co., Ltd., the Printing Technology Association of China, the Beijing Printing Association, the Beijing Printing Industry Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Station, Fuji Xerox (China) Co., Ltd., the China Quality Certification Center, Shanghai Zhonghua Printing Co., Ltd., Tianjin Toyo Ink Co., Ltd., Guangdong Zhongshan Youwei Printing Equipment Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Special Economic Zone Hongta Renheng Paper Co., Ltd., Beijing Zhongrong Security Printing Company, Beijing Dingjia Century Printing Co., Ltd., and Beijing Kangdexin Functional Materials Co., Ltd., among others.
The meeting focused on the drafting and formulation of the six green printing standards, with the six items reviewed in breakout groups.
In the group sessions, experts carefully examined the standards' framework, structure, content and relevant technical indicators, and identified the drafting units and lead writers for each standard. After deliberation, the meeting decided to rename 'Sampling and Sample Preparation Methods for Green Printing Products' to 'Sampling Methods and General Rules for Sample Preparation for Green Printing Products'; because primary and secondary school textbooks involve special printing and product requirements, and to make the standard easier to use, textbook printed matter would be listed separately. The standard 'Criteria for Conformity Assessment of Green Printing Products - Part 1: Primary and Secondary School Textbooks' would be renamed 'Green Printing (Quality) Requirements and Inspection Methods for Primary and Secondary School Textbooks,' submitted for a national standard project, and removed from the six green printing industry standards. The standard 'Criteria for Conformity Assessment of Green Printing Products - Part 2: Reading Printed Matter' would be renamed 'Criteria for Conformity Assessment of Green Printing Products - Part 1: Reading Printed Matter.'
The meeting determined that the drafting group for the five green printing industry standards should complete the first draft by April 5, 2014. Its first working meeting is tentatively scheduled for late April 2014, with Beijing initially set as the venue.
