CPF Marks 35 Years in Beijing, Focusing on Industry Upgrade and Global Cooperation

[CPF E-Commerce Committee News] Beijing hosted the China Packaging Federation (CPF) 35th Anniversary Conference and the Second Meeting of Its Eighth Council from December 19 to 21, 2015. The event drew strong industry attention, with invited attendees including the CPF president, vice presidents, standing council members and council members, leaders of regional packaging associations, heads of CPF professional committees, and officials from relevant ministries and commissions.

At 9:00 a.m. on the 20th, guests gathered for a group photo in the first-floor lobby of Tiantai Hotel before moving to the third-floor lecture hall for the 35th anniversary conference. After a promotional video, speakers took the stage in turn. Zhang Tao, deputy director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, stressed that packaging matters greatly to national economic development and that packaging industry organizations have helped drive economic progress. CPF in particular, he noted, has concentrated the 'new normal' of transformation and development within the sector. Zhang expressed hope that the conference would review experience and that, amid new historical opportunities, CPF would offer more service platforms, accelerate its own reform, strengthen organizational brand building and overall capability, and support China's advance from a major packaging country to a strong packaging country. He also wished the CPF 35th anniversary conference complete success.

Zhao Jiasheng, vice president of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, also addressed the event and recognized CPF's accomplishments. He said CPF has centered on economic development, kept innovating its services and achieved outstanding results, acting as a bridge between industry and government and between society and industry. This has earned national recognition, social acceptance and support from member units, with all work proceeding in an orderly manner and a major influence on market-oriented development, while deepening cooperation and mutual exchange and learning. Vice President Zhao closed by wishing CPF even greater achievements.

President Xu Bin then delivered a major speech. He noted that in recent years China's packaging industry has been willing to pioneer and to keep innovating, not only supporting the revitalization and development of the country's packaging sector but also providing useful experience for innovating industry management systems under a socialist market economy. Xu said some progress has been made, representing the first step in a long march, yet gaps remain compared with industrially developed countries. Going forward, CPF will continue building five platforms and advance informatization and intelligentization in packaging.

Xu pointed out that CPF was founded in 1980 and was the first industry association in China's industrial sector. CPF has now entered a brand-new era. In 2014, packaging industrial output reached 1.7 trillion yuan, providing supporting services for 110 trillion yuan of domestic goods. That year, CPF made significant progress in talent cultivation, energy conservation and environmental protection, and scientific research and innovation, and raised national industry standards. Over 35 years, CPF's risk resistance has grown continuously; it has established contacts and cooperation with packaging organizations in more than 20 countries and regions worldwide, and on behalf of the People's Republic of China has participated in international packaging organizations including the World Packaging Organisation, the International Corrugated Case Association, the Asian Packaging Federation and the European Aerosol Federation, with its international voice steadily rising.

Finally, President Xu thanked the Party Central Committee and the State Council for their support and industry enterprises for their participation. He said CPF will seize opportunities, firm up confidence and adapt to the new normal of reform; it will focus on the source of design, follow the market closely and increase product added value. As the curtain of the '13th Five-Year Plan' is about to rise and new growth drivers are taking shape, CPF will build new engines and further promote China's development from a major packaging country to a strong packaging country.

A grand award ceremony followed, honoring 2015 recipients in categories including advanced collectives, outstanding secretaries-general, outstanding directors, advanced workers and outstanding entrepreneurs in China's packaging industry.

On the afternoon of the 20th, the Second Meeting of the Eighth Council of CPF was held. President Xu Bin presented a work report; the meeting reviewed and approved the election measures and reviewed and approved proposals on the proposed removal and appointment of vice presidents, standing council members and council members.
