Xishuangbanna Tightens Pre-Holiday Overpackaging Inspections, Orders Individual Operators to Rectify
In recent years, some companies have focused one-sidedly on packaging as a way to raise product prices. Common manifestations include too many packaging layers, oversized voids, inappropriate material choices, packaging that is difficult to recycle, and excessively high packaging costs.
Recently, the Xishuangbanna Prefecture Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision sent law enforcement personnel to supermarkets, hotels and mooncake production enterprises. Inspections centered on the packaging of mooncakes, tea, alcohol and gifts, aiming to rectify prominent problems in mooncake and gift production and operation—such as substandard quality and excessive packaging—that damage consumers' legitimate rights and interests.
In recent years, some enterprises have continued to focus one-sidedly on packaging in order to increase prices. Typical issues include too many layers, excessive void space, inappropriate materials, poor recyclability and high packaging costs. Overpackaging has been especially serious for mooncakes, tea, alcohol, cosmetics and health food, attracting broad public attention. Excessive packaging not only wastes resources and pollutes the environment, but also inflates prices, harms consumer interests, disrupts market order and fuels corruption. It does not meet the requirements of building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society, nor does it align with socialist spiritual civilization, so strong measures must be taken to tackle it at the root. The inspection found that the vast majority of production and operation units complied with regulations, but a few still had excessive packaging; the Xishuangbanna Prefecture Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision has ordered them to make immediate corrections.
