Asia's leading processing and packaging machinery exhibition, swop 2019 (Shanghai World of Packaging), has opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Now in its third edition and a member of the interpack alliance, the world's leading packaging machinery and processing exhibition network, it brings together international resources to present new packaging trends, ideas and technologies, and to provide a preview of interpack 2020. This edition covers more than 60,000 square meters, with exhibitors competing on the same stage, and is expected to attract over 30,000 professional visitors from China and overseas.

The opening press conference brought together Mr. Zhu Yulun, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd.; Mr. Marius Berlemann, General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Mr. Bernd Jablonowski, Global Project Director for International Processing and Packaging Machinery Exhibitions at Messe Düsseldorf Group; and Mr. Wu Lin, founder, all of whom delivered remarks. Also present were Mr. Axel Bartkus, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf (China) Co., Ltd.; Ms. Gu Yan, Senior Project Director of Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Ms. Zhu Mingyi, Vice Chairwoman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd.; and Ms. Du Jingxian, General Manager of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. Professional media attended, jointly raising the curtain on swop 2019 Shanghai World of Packaging.

Continuing the theme of building a comprehensive packaging industry chain display platform, swop 2019 connects packaging material production and processing, primary packaging, secondary packaging, packaging material production and processing machinery, packaging printing, food and beverage processing and packaging, pharmaceutical and cosmetics processing and packaging, non-food consumer goods processing and packaging, packaging materials (including flexible packaging), packaging containers and packaging products, and packaging design. It covers nine end-use sectors: food, beverages, daily chemicals, electronics and electrical appliances, pharmaceuticals, complete vehicles and auto parts and trim, plastic products and parts, and packaging printing, creating a one-stop sourcing platform for the entire packaging value chain.

Exhibitors from China, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, the UK, the US, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China) and Taiwan (China), among other countries and regions, are presenting first-class products and innovations in processing and packaging. Pioneering companies in the processing and packaging industry such as HP, Haoyoufu, Demag, Hangzhou Zhongya, Hualian Machinery, Yongchuang, Berry Elite and Tongchan Lixing (in no particular order) are appearing at swop 2019, jointly demonstrating the packaging manufacturing sector's major development trends toward intelligent, integrated, personalized and eco-friendly operations.

Working for the third time with a partner dedicated to building the most valuable FMCG industry chain ecosystem, the organizer presents the FMCG Theme Pavilion. The pavilion mainly displays packaging containers and packaging consumables, and its scale has been upgraded again from the previous edition, with an expanded exhibitor line-up and display area. The participation of the Shaoxing Shangyu District Cosmetics Packaging Industry Association also makes the FMCG Theme Pavilion shine. By showcasing high-quality products for packaging end users and creating a cross-disciplinary exchange platform, the pavilion helps enhance brand competitiveness. As packaging materials and products become a hot spot of attention in end-use sectors, the FMCG Theme Pavilion stands out as a competitive highlight.

swop 2019 features a rich line-up of concurrent events. Many themed exhibition zones and forums are inspired by interpack, including SAVE FOOD, co-hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., which lands at swop 2019 in the dual form of a themed exhibition and a summit forum. At the second-day summit forum, speakers from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Shanghai Toppan Co., Ltd., the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association, AMETEK MOCON, Multivac, Tsinghua University and award-winning guests of the Anti-Hunger Hackathon will share how innovative packaging materials and technologies can extend food shelf life, reduce food loss and waste, lower production costs for companies, and contribute to environmental protection.

This year, the organizer has partnered with the renowned Packaging Communication Design program (SIVAPACK) of the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts to hold the 'Generation, New Future' SIVAPACK Baofu Dier Design Exhibition and the 'New Era Insight' International Design Summit Forum. This generation represents the market's new future. As brand competition intensifies, the event works with brands and the packaging industry to start from packaging design, using innovation, business thinking and consumer insight to help companies and end users capture business opportunities.

To explore the future development trends of smart packaging and provide strategic support for upstream and downstream companies in the packaging industry, the organizer also hosts multiple large-scale, multi-angle forums covering hot topics such as food processing, smart packaging, green packaging, packaging design and creativity, and e-commerce logistics packaging. These include: the 'Generation, New Future' SIVAPACK Baofu Dier Design Exhibition; the FMCG Creativity Forum; the Paper and Plastic Packaging Development Forum in the Era of Green and Smart Manufacturing; the FMCG Special Forum; the FMCG Theme Pavilion Appreciation Reception; the SAVE FOOD China - Save Food China Summit Forum; the New Era Insight International Design High-end Forum; the interpack 2020 Plastic Packaging Enterprises New Technology Exchange and Promotion Meeting; the E-commerce Logistics Packaging Summit Forum; and drupa 2020.

swop 2019 has received strong support from food, daily chemical, plastics, printing and packaging associations in China and abroad. At the show, it hosted enterprise and association delegations, drawing strong attendance. The event also attracted pre-registered visitors from China, Germany, Spain, the UK, Italy, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Russia and other countries and regions. Over four days, swop 2019 will bring the packaging industry together in Shanghai to explore new opportunities.
