• Keep away from heat: stoves, ovens and boiler rooms all shorten shelf life.
• Allow airflow: a pantry or basement needs good ventilation so musty odours do not accumulate and get absorbed by the oil.
• No separate storeroom? A kitchen cabinet still works, provided it is positioned well away from the hob.

2. Keep Bags Upright and Stack with Care

• Stand the bag vertically: oil dispenses more easily, air ingress is reduced, and the tap is less likely to weep.
• Add a buffer between layers: place cardboard or a thin board between bags to avoid crushing the film and seals.
• Use racks or shelves: each bag remains upright and visible, making picking and stock counting simpler.

3. Protect the Tap and Inspect for Leaks

• Cover the tap: seal the outlet with a plastic cap or tape to keep dust and debris from causing a blockage.
• Do not bear down on the tap: never let other bags rest on it; a bent or crushed tap will not dispense correctly and must be replaced.
• Leak-test before storage: add a small amount of oil and check the tap, bag seals and seams for leakage; repair or replace the bag if needed.
• Check at regular intervals: catching a small leak early prevents an entire bag from being discarded.
