Plastic Restrictions Reshape Packaging Demand: 2022 Shanghai International Biodegradable Materials and Disposable Products Expo to Highlight Alternatives

Published:2026-10-03 · Industry News

Venue: Shanghai World Trade Exhibition Hall; Address: Xingyi Road, Changning District, Shanghai; Organizer: China National Chemical Information Center; Co-organizers: Biodegradable Materials Research Institute and China Paper Chemicals Industry Association; Host: Shanghai Xichun Exhibition Service Co., Ltd.; the concurrent Biodegradable Materials Product and Technology Application Forum will also be held.

China is a major consumer of plastic products. It had already introduced plastic restriction rules years earlier. Yet the rapid expansion of express delivery, food delivery and other sectors has pushed plastic use upward rather than downward, leaving many industries under severe white pollution pressure. The push to ban and restrict plastics continues to intensify and is now unavoidable.

Recently, the Notice on Solidly Advancing Plastic Pollution Control Work was issued again. It stresses conservation first, protection first and natural restoration as the main approach, and calls for deeper implementation of the sustainable development strategy. With the new plastic ban introduced and implemented in China, the market is accelerating its search for plastic substitutes. Biodegradable plastics have thus entered public view and are replacing traditional plastics as a new development direction.

As society gains a deeper understanding of degradable materials, demand rises, market acceptance improves, and plastic restriction policies are refined and implemented, the domestic substitution space for degradable plastics is broad. The outlook for degradable materials keeps improving.

Based in Shanghai, the Shanghai Biodegradable Plastics and Disposable Products Expo leverages Yangtze River Delta industrial strengths, integrates resources and builds platforms to accelerate the degradable materials industry. Focusing on the industry's development direction, the Expo uses exhibitions as the main format and forums as a supplement.

The event will bring together professionals from relevant industries, industrial fields and capital markets, as well as academicians and other high-level talents, to identify cutting-edge industry trends, map future development, uncover investment opportunities and support high-quality growth of degradable materials.

Degradable plastics applications cover food-sector degradable plastic products, medical and health degradable plastic products, electronic degradable plastic products, hotel degradable plastic products, degradable plastic toothpaste boxes, degradable plastic toothbrushes, degradable plastic cups, degradable plastic straws, degradable plastic plates, knives and forks, and other product series.

Degradable plastic packaging products include eco-friendly packaging, food packaging containers, e-commerce logistics and express packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, daily chemical packaging, pulp molding, pulp molded tableware, pulp molded cups, pulp eco-friendly tableware, eco-friendly tape and eco-friendly fast food supplies.
