Oral Liquid and TCM Packaging: Flexible Plastic Containers Should Reach Wider Applications

The pharmaceutical sector has long regarded glass bottles as a common packaging container. In recent years, flexible packaging has relied on its own advantages to keep increasing its share of the overall packaging landscape; its application fields continue to stretch, its application levels continue to broaden, and quality control issues have therefore become more prominent.

According to reports, for flexible packaging, the higher the lamination strength, the better for box gluing; tearing or breaking performance is also more ideal, and a high adhesion value can prevent composite layers from separating. By testing the coefficient of friction of packaging materials, it is possible to control and adjust pouch opening performance, packaging machine speed, and other production-quality process indicators. The ultimate purpose of packaging is sales; eye-catching, well-printed packaging can clearly draw consumer attention and help grow market share. Quality testing for density, density variation, Esko color, color deviation, and ink-layer adhesion fastness in flexible plastic printing is also important.

Historically, oral liquid bottles have generally been brown glass bottles. Due to various factors, sealing is inconvenient, glass fragments inside the bottle are difficult to remove completely, and the reject rate of oral liquids is high; some products have even reached the market, causing serious impacts on consumers' health. Soft oral liquid bottles can precisely address these problems.

At present, in the oral liquid bottle segment, soft plastic oral liquid bottles have already been partially adopted, and their application scope is gradually expanding. Rigid plastic oral liquid bottles are also slowly replacing glass for packaging syrup and other larger-volume liquid medicines, which is consistent with developments in Europe. The main reason is that plastic containers have a wider neck, are easier to fill, support faster production on the filling line, are not easily broken, and can provide a larger label area to carry more information.

In line with market demand, relevant enterprises should accelerate the promotion and application of plastic containers such as pharmaceutical oral liquid bottles. Since China's traditional Chinese medicine pills, capsules, powders and other formats have considerable development space in the international market, the development of plastic hollow container packaging for traditional Chinese medicine should also be accelerated, continuously broadening the application scope of flexible packaging.
