Nippon Paint and LyondellBasell Launch Circular Plastic Packaging Pail at CHINAPLAS 2023, Expanding Green Packaging for Coatings

On April 16, the CHINAPLAS 2023 International Plastics and Rubber Show press conference was successfully held in Shenzhen. At the event, Nippon Paint and LyondellBasell jointly launched a new circular plastic packaging pail. The move signals that the two companies will further expand the use of green, eco-friendly plastic packaging in coating-system products and use a virtuous cycle across the product life cycle to provide an effective example for the industry's sustainable development.

Bai Yi, president of Nippon Paint China's Procurement Headquarters, noted that cooperation with LyondellBasell is a vital part of Nippon Paint's green development journey. He said that innovating coating-system product packaging to create environment-friendly products is an indispensable part of Nippon Paint's green development and a deep response to the national 'dual carbon' goals and the green transformation of social and economic development. Expanding the use of recycled plastic in coating packaging marks an important step forward on the green sustainability path; by connecting upstream and downstream partners, Nippon Paint will continue exploring new approaches to a green ecology and contribute to protecting the natural environment.

The circular plastic packaging pail developed by Nippon Paint and LyondellBasell is made with CirculenRecover polypropylene polymer. Through an efficient recycling process for plastic waste, it achieves a lower carbon footprint and delivers a recycled-plastic product that combines sustainability with high quality, giving plastic waste a 'second life'.

At the ChinaReplas2022 Third Plastics Recycling and Regeneration Golden Apple Awards, Nippon Paint won the 'Golden Apple' Award for Innovative Application of Recycled Materials with this packaging pail. The recognition from expert judges covered both environmental and commercial benefits. As the strategic cooperation continues, Nippon Paint will expand the application of this green, eco-friendly plastic packaging in coating-system products, giving more products a 'green new coat'.

Fu Limin, vice president of LyondellBasell China's Joint Venture Management and Polyolefins business, said that the company is pleased to release the co-created result with Nippon Paint and that this is an important attempt to explore recycled plastic in sustainable packaging. He added that LyondellBasell hopes to keep expanding local cooperation and accelerate local supply of CirculenRecover products.
