Ningxia Updates Anti-Myopia Exercise Book Printing Standard: Formats, Paper and Printing Methods Clarified
Anti-myopia exercise books are a Chinese invention for preventing student myopia, and they have delivered good results in real-world use. Yet as times change, the old printing standards no longer match today's learning needs, prompting the Ningxia Department of Education to revise them.
Information from the Ningxia Department of Education shows that the region has promoted the use of anti-myopia exercise books since 2000. Because the previous printing standards no longer fit current learning needs, the department recently updated the standards.
The high incidence of myopia among primary and secondary school students not only disrupts normal study and daily life but also affects students' physical and mental health. In November 2000, the Education Department issued the Notice on Recommending the Use of Anti-Myopia Exercise Books in Primary and Secondary Schools Across the Region and recommended them in most areas. As a Chinese invention and an important tool for preventing and treating student myopia, the anti-myopia exercise book won recognition and praise from teachers, students and parents across Ningxia after being recommended. In 2007, the Education Department issued another document to promote its use regionwide.
With rapid socioeconomic development and significantly improved living standards, the old printing standards no longer meet current student learning needs, so the Education Department adjusted them. Under the revised standard, primary school books use a 22-format horizontal-flip style, and middle school books use a 16-format horizontal-flip style. All covers use 128gsm art paper with four-color offset printing. All inner pages use 70gsm eye-protection writing paper, printed on both sides, with 30 sheets and 60 pages per book. The supply price follows the 'cost recovery with small profit' principle and is set by the education department together with the local pricing department with reference to market prices.
