Nine Dragons Paper Orders Three Voith XcelLine Machines as Southwest Smart Packaging Base Targets End-June Launch

Voith, a well-known papermaking equipment manufacturer, has announced that

Nine Dragons Paper has placed an order for three XcelLine packaging paper machines, which will turn out high-strength kraft linerboard and white-top kraft linerboard.

Nine Dragons Paper ranks as China's largest packaging paper producer, and once the capacity of the three new lines is released, its leadership in the packaging paper segment will be reinforced further.

Start-up of the three machines is scheduled for the 2022–2023 window.

All three machines ordered this time share identical specifications,

each capable of producing up to 2,400 tons per day at a design speed of 1,400 m/min.

Based on those figures,

a single machine can reach a maximum annual capacity of 800,000 tons.

Meeting the customer's demanding production standards means every machine component needs exceptional performance and strength. To keep high-grammage grades running stably at high machine speeds, Voith fitted the wire section with a DuoFormer D II E top-former, while the press section adopts a triple-nip design concept that delivers outstanding surface smoothness on white-top kraft linerboard. A double-unwind stand with fully automatic reel changing, combined with the high-performance TwinDrive double-unwind winder, allows fast and efficient rewinding and delivers 20% more capacity than conventional winders.

Voith has not disclosed which of Nine Dragons Paper's plants will host the three machines. Publicly available information, however, points to

new papermaking projects planned at the group's Jingzhou (Hubei), Beihai (Guangxi) and Shenyang (Liaoning) sites.

Output expansion through new paper machines is not the only move: Nine Dragons Intelligent Packaging's Southwest headquarters project has also entered the trial production stage, with the goal of creating a smart premium packaging manufacturing base built to Industry 4.0 standards.

On May 28, the Hong Kong-invested Nine Dragons Intelligent Packaging Southwest headquarters project was completed and moved into the commissioning and production phase,

and it is expected to officially begin operations and production by the end of June.

The project entity, Nine Dragons Intelligent Packaging (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., belongs to Nine Dragons Global Investment Group. Established in August 2018, it is located on Oucheng Road in the Europe Industrial Park, Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

A person in charge at Nine Dragons Group explained that

the main structures of the board workshop, the carton workshop and the dormitory building are now complete, and the waste paper workshop has been finished in full. Full production is expected by the end of June this year, with annual output of roughly 240 million square meters of corrugated board and corrugated cartons and an annual output value of around RMB 1.4 billion.

Nine Dragons Global (Dongguan) Intelligent Packaging Co., Ltd. is the investor and builder behind the project, which carries total investment of US$150 million and covers 200 mu,

comprising two corrugated board production lines, one fully automatic logistics conveying system and ten eco-friendly printing presses, plus a Southwest headquarters settlement center.

Nine Dragons Paper brings in internationally leading technology along with large-scale modern, intelligent equipment, runs an advanced SAP system management platform and keeps investing in R&D. The base manufactures high-strength corrugated board and high-strength corrugated cartons on production lines imported from Italy's Fosber, giving its products high bursting strength and stable performance.

Built to Industry 4.0 standards, the facility serves as a smart premium packaging manufacturing base and a supporting project for import and export activity at Chengdu Railway Port, supplying customers across western China.

Separately, on May 19 this year, the Public Resources Trading Service Center of Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu successfully organized a listed transfer transaction for one parcel of state-owned construction land use rights, covering a transaction area of 200.0324 mu. The land was won by Nine Dragons Intelligent Packaging (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. and will be used for the Nine Dragons Intelligent Packaging (Southwest) headquarters and manufacturing base project.
