From Corrugated Board to Paper Cups: Hubei Shuang Technology Enters Its Third Development Phase

Advanced corrugated board line installed; large integrated automated workshop completed

On the afternoon of May 29, inside Qingdao Industrial Park in Yaqueling Town, Yiling District, Hubei Shuang Technology Co., Ltd.’s integrated automated corrugated board workshop spans more than 10,000 square meters and is divided into several functional zones. Along the long line, machines of various roles run at high speed.

The first thing to catch the eye is the starting point of the line: roll paper, the raw material for board production. Towering stacks of rolls speak to the strength of this fast-growing paper packaging manufacturer—it is already capable of producing a wide range of boards and cartons.

Deputy General Manager Zhou Zhaoming told reporters while walking through the plant that the company is in peak season, demand for corrugated board and cartons keeps rising, and orders are plentiful, so the factory is ramping up production. All the cartons being made that day were to be loaded and shipped, with customers waiting. He said the factory uses an advanced domestic corrugated board line; daily capacity for board and cartons has exceeded 180,000 square meters, and operations are automated from order creation to finished goods entering the logistics warehouse.

A corrugated board production line is a flow line in which roll base paper is corrugated, glued, bonded and shaped, scored, and slit into specified board sizes; it is core equipment for corrugated carton makers. Because customers demand many specifications and fast delivery, manufacturers must raise line automation and production management to improve quality and efficiency while saving energy, labor, consumables and waste.

Workshop supervisor Liu Xingxin, standing beside the corrugated board line, said the day’s order totaled more than 10,000 sheets of board and was being rushed for shipment to Jingmen City. A native of Yiling District, he quit a job elsewhere and returned home a few years ago to join Shuang Technology. Still working in his original field, he is now in charge of the corrugated board line and earns more than 10,000 yuan a month, and he is very satisfied with his job.

Continuously building core competitiveness; product quality wins industry recognition

Hubei Shuang Technology Co., Ltd. was registered in March 2011. In July 2013, it officially moved into Qingdao Industrial Park in Yiling District, with a 110-mu plant area, a site of 75,000 square meters and a building area of 42,000 square meters.

Located in Yaqueling Town, Yiling District, Qingdao Industrial Park is a key part of Yiling’s “one belt, two zones, six parks” industrial layout. It has now become an important growth pole in the hundred-billion-yuan industrial economic belt along Xiaoya Road.

This marked Shuang Technology’s second development period, lifting it onto a new platform. As a paper production and packaging company, it emphasizes brand advantages and frontier updates in technology and equipment, maintaining standout capability and advantages in market competition.

As the market and customer needs evolved, Shuang Technology expanded production capacity. Guided by safety, environmental protection and green printing, and targeting automation and intelligence, it made repeated breakthroughs in technical upgrades, informatization and new product development. It has introduced industry-leading equipment and technologies for automatic counting, packing and stacking, keeping pace with demand and innovation.

In 2013, it introduced a domestically leading Wanlian 2.2-meter seven-layer corrugated board line. In 2018, it added color box equipment, increasing color printing packaging capacity by 20 million square meters and enabling it to supply the food, pharmaceutical and liquor sectors with color boxes, color cartons, handbags and various corrugated board cartons; that year output value surpassed 180 million yuan. Over the years, Shuang Technology has invested more than 15 million yuan in a waste heat recovery system, automatic waste paper baling system, intelligent heating system, automatic deviation correction system, automatic counting, packing and stacking logistics system, and fully automatic carton and color box production equipment, driving automated production.

To date, Shuang Technology operates more than 40 sets of advanced carton forming equipment and 45 transport vehicles, and employs 180 people, including 65 professionals and technicians. It has grown into a specialist producer of two-, three-, four-, five- and seven-layer corrugated board cartons, with annual output of 80 million square meters of board and 40 million square meters of cartons. In 2020, output value exceeded 200 million yuan, with tax payments of more than 3 million yuan.

As a manufacturer, Shuang Technology has spent 10 years helping local people find jobs close to home, and most employees are local villagers. Fu Gaoyu, a villager from Group 3 of Tianfan Village in Yaqueling Town, joined Shuang Technology in 2013 and now works as a boiler operator, earning more than 4,000 yuan a month.

Speaking about his job, Fu Gaoyu said that before joining Shuang Technology he farmed a few mu of land at home and took odd jobs at nearby construction sites during the slack season. Now his work is stable, his monthly wage covers his family’s needs, and he feels a strong sense of achievement.

Shuang Technology runs its business with dedication and uses industry-based support to help local residents increase income steadily at home. It now has more than 180 employees and has created positions for more than 40 people with disabilities. It also actively fulfills social responsibility and helps the poor and needy. In the past three years, it has provided targeted assistance to Letianxi Town in Yiling District for rural revitalization. During the 2020 epidemic response, it donated 200,000 yuan to the Yiling District COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control Command, mobilized employees to donate more than 60,000 yuan and carried out public welfare activities. When a villager surnamed Wu from Group 3 of Tianfan Village fell into poverty due to illness and his old house was too dilapidated to live in, Shuang Technology contributed 150,000 yuan for renovation. Today, the renewed house sits beneath trees, looking quiet and comfortable.

Entering a third development period, a series of projects outline a new development blueprint

In 2020, the municipal party committee and government made “building Yaqueling Town into a carrier zone for high-quality industrial economic development” part of the city’s 14th Five-Year Plan, elevating it to a municipal strategy. The 12th plenary session of the 5th Yiling District Party Committee designated Xiaoxita, the main urban area of the pilot zone, Longquan Town and Yaqueling Town as three core blocks, with Yaqueling Town to become a high-quality industrial development carrier zone. In November 2020, construction started on the first phase of Yaqueling Industrial Park, making Yaqueling Town—the eastern gateway—the main battlefield for a 10,000-mu park.

Within Yiling District’s new high-quality economic development landscape and around its “third pole” regional positioning, Shuang Technology has entered its third development period and is actively planning its 14th Five-Year development program.

Ten years to sharpen a sword. During its first decade of growth, Shuang Technology steadily expanded its business scope and continued to provide customers with quality products, technical support and sound services. Its main activities cover packaging technology development; processing and sales of paper and plastic packaging products; purchasing, processing and sales of agricultural products; and recycling of renewable resources. Step by step, progress across these fields has laid a solid foundation for the next stage.

In May this year, Shuang Technology invested more than 6 million yuan in a paper cup and paper bowl project, aiming to start production on the line in October. This is just one of its new investment projects.

Energy-saving stove, cold-chain logistics and waste-heat power generation projects, among others, are advancing in a competitive push, each entering its own development track as construction proceeds vigorously.
