From 60–70 Million to 150 Million Yuan: Pengyuxiang Packaging Eyes Medical Packaging and UV Printing for Growth

Pengyuxiang Packaging and Printing Co., Ltd. (Pengyuxiang), based in Zibo, Shandong, was established in 2003. The company has carved out a clear niche in medical packaging—mask boxes and glove boxes are among its signature products—while also supporting local specialty sectors such as apparel and ceramics with packaging and printing services.

Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has placed varying degrees of pressure on many printing businesses. Pengyuxiang, however, has leveraged its distinctive product positioning to achieve exceptional growth.

Hou Jinyu, general manager of Pengyuxiang and son of chairman Hou Peng, studied in the UK and Germany. After returning from Germany in 2019, he came back to work at the factory and was soon entrusted by his father with the general manager role.

Hou Jinyu’s return to the company was not entirely conventional.

When he decided to rejoin the factory, his father initially opposed the move. Believing printing was too demanding, his father preferred that he remain abroad for work. His mother’s persuasion eventually changed his father’s mind, and he agreed to let him return and take over the business.

After Hou Jinyu assumed his post, Hou Peng added another Heidelberg Speedmaster CD102 eight-color plus coater UV offset press—manufactured in Qingpu—for Pengyuxiang in November 2020.

Such investment courage in the post-pandemic era stemmed partly from Hou Peng’s recognition of the medical packaging market’s enormous potential and promising outlook. Hou Jinyu’s determination to carry on the family business was also a key factor behind Hou Peng’s decision.

With father and son working side by side for the future, Hou Peng—still dedicating himself tirelessly to printing—has drawn great encouragement and comfort. So when he speaks of this year’s modest goal—lifting total output value from last year’s 60–70 million yuan to 150 million yuan—his confidence is unmistakable.

Today, while helping manage the company, Hou Jinyu is also studying at Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, aiming to deepen his understanding of industry market and technology trends.

He has already formed his own vision for the company’s future development.

He aims to fully leverage Pengyuxiang’s advanced technological strengths in printing equipment and color management, pushing its medical packaging business to the highest level. At the same time, he plans to use the Speedmaster CD102-8+L and Multicolor spot color replacement solutions to explore more opportunities in UV printing.

"Second-generation printers" like Hou Jinyu, who have already begun to step onto the stage of their companies and the industry, will one day lead their enterprises to new heights and become the mainstay of the industry’s development in the new era. Let us wait and see.
