Drafting Group for Plastic Flexible Packaging Gravure National Standard Launched in Beijing

On the morning of April 23, 2014, the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee held the founding meeting of the drafting group for the national standard "Gravure Printing Process Control and Quality Inspection Methods for Plastic Flexible Packaging" in Meeting Room C, 2nd Floor, Daxing Hotel, Beijing. This marked the formal start of forming the drafting group, with delegates studying and discussing the standard's various topics.

1. The meeting confirmed the following organizations as drafting units for the national standard "Gravure Printing Process Control and Quality Inspection Methods for Plastic Flexible Packaging": Jiangsu Caihua Packaging Group Co. (Kunshan Zhangpu Color Printing Factory), Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, Huangshan Novel Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zijiang Color Printing & Packaging Co., Ltd., the Gravure Printing Branch of the Printing Technology Association of China, Zhejiang Chengxin Packaging Material Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Songyu Printing & Packaging Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Dingzheng Printing & Packaging Co., Ltd., Bemis Dongguan Qiaomiao Packaging Co., Ltd., Beijing No. 3 Trademark Printing Factory, Hebei Tianlong Color Printing Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Beiren Printing Machinery Co., Ltd., Songde Machinery Co., Ltd., Ningbo Xinda Printing Machinery Co., Ltd., Shanxi Yuncheng Plate-Making Group Co., Ltd., Tianjin Jinggong Huahui Plate-Making Technology Development Co., Ltd., Beijing Luster LightTech Co., Ltd., Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Industry and Commerce, Shenzhen Botai Printing Equipment Co., Ltd., and Bobst (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
2. The meeting decided that the drafters for the national standard "Gravure Printing Process Control and Quality Inspection Methods for Plastic Flexible Packaging" will be finalized at the next meeting.
3. The meeting confirmed the members of the writing group for the national standard "Gravure Printing Process Control and Quality Inspection Methods for Plastic Flexible Packaging" as: Hou Xiaoping, Xu Wencai, Cao Guorong, Ma Pingdong, Sun Hong, Zhong Huidin, Rong Huili, Qiao Yingzhe, Hu Hanjun, Zhang Dali, Du Min, Bo Rongsheng, Zhang Junfeng, Ping Yao, Liu Jingqi, Chen Junzheng, Sun Li, Li Xin, and Yu Yong. Hou Xiaoping was appointed group leader.
4. Participants conducted in-depth research and discussion on the title, framework, and content of the national standard "Gravure Printing Process Control and Quality Inspection Methods for Plastic Flexible Packaging".
5. The meeting set the standard title as: "Quality Control and Inspection Methods for the Gravure Printing Process of Plastic Flexible Packaging".
6. The meeting noted that the formulation approach for this national standard should focus on gravure process control in plastic flexible packaging and, using GB/T7707-2008 as the basis, standardize the gravure process and key quality control points.
7. The meeting confirmed the framework of this national standard as: 1 Scope; 2 Normative references; 3 Terms and definitions; 4 Quality control requirements (4.1 Raw materials, 4.2 Equipment, 4.3 Tooling, 4.4 Process, 4.5 Operating specifications); 5 Inspection methods.
8. The meeting clarified that this standard applies to quality control and inspection in the gravure printing process for flexible packaging films made from plastic substrates, and also applies to gravure printing of plastic film labels.
9. The meeting determined that the printability indicators for substrates in this standard include wetting tension and uniformity, heat shrinkage, tensile strength, coefficient of friction, thickness deviation, transparency, width deviation, tensile strength, and appearance. Substrates include BOPP, PE, PET, CPP, BOPA, PVC, OPS, etc.
10. The meeting determined that the main ink indicators in this standard include hue, tinting strength (GB/T13217.6), viscosity, fineness, fastness (GB/T13217.7), initial drying (GB/T13217.5), and surface tension (QB/T2024).
11. The meeting determined that solvent indicators in this standard mainly cover purity and water content.
12. The meeting determined that tooling in this standard refers to gravure plates, doctor blades, and impression cylinders. For gravure plates, the press and publication industry standard "Quality Requirements and Inspection Methods for Electronically Engraved Gravure Plates" may be referenced. Doctor blades are mainly steel belt doctor blades. Impression cylinder-related indicators will be compiled from survey data and circulated for comments.
13. The meeting determined that the gravure printing equipment section of this standard references GB/T28383-2012 "Web-Fed Gravure Printing Press".
14. The meeting determined that process indicators in this standard mainly include printing environment temperature and humidity (other conditions to be supplemented), tension, oven temperature, exhaust air volume, doctor blade lines, spot color ink tolerance range, and impression cylinder pressure.
15. The meeting determined that the first draft of the drafting group for this national standard will be completed before the end of June 2014.
16. The meeting determined that the first working meeting of the drafting group for this national standard will be held in July 2014, with the venue to be determined.
