Die-Cutting, Hot Stamping/Embossing and Box-Making Drafts Pass Beijing Expert Review

On May 27, 2009, the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC170) convened an expert review at the Ruicheng Hotel in Beijing for the drafts of three packaging post-press standards: die-cutting, hot stamping/embossing, and box making. The session brought together more than 40 SAC/TC170 committee members and specially invited experts from across China. It was chaired by SAC/TC170 Secretary-General Li An together with Li Jiaxiang and Cao Fengling, heads of the review panel. Secretary-General Li An explained the background and development process of the three standards and offered specific guidance on the scope and requirements of the review. The meeting reviewed and passed the three packaging post-press standards in an orderly and rigorous manner.

The three standards were formally launched as projects in 2007 following a joint proposal by Xingguang Group Co., Ltd. — a 2007 enterprise of the “National Packaging Printing Standardization Testing and Promotion Base” — and Bobst (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., with approval from the General Administration of Press and Publication. Over the next year and a half, support came from Xingguang Group Co., Ltd., Bobst (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Kurz Transfer Products (Hefei) Co., Ltd., Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Tobacco Packaging Printing Co., Ltd. and the National Printing and Decoration Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. The drafting group held four joint meetings and sought broad feedback before producing the drafts for review.

According to feedback from the expert review, the development process and technical content of the three standards drew unanimous praise. The experts considered the drafts to be relatively detailed in material, accurate in wording, high in drafting quality and aligned with China's actual conditions. SAC/TC170 will act on the review meeting's requirements by preparing the documents for approval of the three standards as soon as possible and submitting them to the General Administration of Press and Publication.
