China's Packaging Post-Press Sector Gets Three New Industry Standards, Effective June 21

Until then, printed-product operations such as die-cutting, hot stamping and box-making lacked process-control technical standards both in China and abroad, and there was no unified quality data for die-cut, hot-stamped or box-made products. With China's packaging and printing industry growing quickly, the sector needed unified technical standards to regulate production, quality and testing methods. The three industry standards were formally established as projects in 2007 and approved through conference review after repeated expert discussions, test verification and extensive opinion solicitation.

The completion of these three industry standards fills a technical-standard gap in this field both domestically and internationally. They are significant for improving the quality and forming level of China's packaging printed products, guiding enterprises to accumulate technical data on post-press processing, exploring better post-press processing techniques, and enhancing the competitiveness of China's post-press processed products in the global market.

June 21 marked the official promulgation and implementation of three new packaging post-press industry standards.

The three packaging post-press process control standards are: CY/T59—2009 Process Control and Testing Methods for Die-cutting of Paper Printed Products; CY/T60—2009 Process Control and Testing Methods for Hot Stamping and Embossing/Debossing of Paper Printed Products; and CY/T61—2009 Process Control and Testing Methods for Box-making of Paper Printed Products.

Organized by the National Technical Committee for Printing Standardization, the three standards were jointly formulated by Xingguang Group Co., Ltd., Bobst (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Kurz Stamping Technology (Hefei) Co., Ltd., Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Tobacco Co., Ltd., Henkel (China) Investment Co., Ltd., the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Printing and Decoration Products, and other units.

According to the National Technical Committee for Printing Standardization, the General Administration of Press and Publication issued the Notice on Approving and Issuing Three Industry Standards Including Process Control and Testing Methods for Die-cutting of Paper Printed Products (Xin Chu Zi [2009] No. 107) on June 21, formally promulgating three press and publication industry standards for packaging post-press. The three standards took effect from the date of promulgation.
