China Adds 650,000 Tonnes/Year of Paper Capacity in July 2022 as Seven New Machines Start Up

July 2022 saw about 650,000 tonnes/year of new base paper capacity come online in China.

Six pulp and paper companies in the country started up seven new paper machine lines during the month, releasing roughly 650,000 tonnes/year of fresh base paper capacity.

The newly commissioned lines spanned several grades: three tissue paper lines with 70,000 tonnes/year, two corrugated base paper lines with 170,000 tonnes, one grey board paper line with about 110,000 tonnes/year, and one high-grade coated white card board line with 300,000 tonnes/year.

On July 2, a packaging paper line at Guangxi Fangsheng Paper Co., Ltd. completed a successful trial run. The machine has a net paper width of 3,900 mm and a design speed of 300 m/min; using waste paper as its main furnish, it produces corrugated base paper and is designed for 70,000 tonnes/year.

On July 10, TM6, the sixth high-speed tissue paper machine of Guangxi Zhihu Yunshang Industrial Co., Ltd., was started up smoothly. Supplied by Foshan Nanhai Baotuo Papermaking Equipment Co., Ltd., the crescent-type high-grade tissue line has a net paper width of 4,200 mm and a design speed of 1,500 m/min. It mainly runs on local Guangxi wet-pulp mix to make 11-12 gsm e-commerce base paper, with a single-machine capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes/year.

The successful startup also marked the perfect completion of Baotuo paper machines for Guangxi Zhihu's Phase II project. The company now has total tissue base paper capacity of 150,000 tonnes, with annual output value of 1 billion yuan and taxes and profits of 60 million yuan.

On July 10, Suizhou Yongxing Recycled Paper Co., Ltd. brought its recycled paper production upgrading and renovation project into production. The line has a paper machine wire width of 4,200 mm and a design speed of 300 m/min; it mainly uses waste paper to make 300-650 gsm high-grade grey board paper, with a single-machine designed capacity of 350 tonnes/day.

TM3 and TM4 of Guigang Longpai Industrial Group Co., Ltd.'s 300,000-tonne/year tissue paper project produced paper on July 10 and July 13, respectively. Both paper machine lines are crescent-type high-speed tissue machines supplied by Baotuo, with a net paper width of 2,850 mm, a design speed of 1,300 m/min and a single-machine annual capacity of about 20,000 tonnes.

On July 12, Shihezi Guoliyuan Environmental Protection Pulp Making Co., Ltd. held a startup ceremony for its first-phase project. With an investment of 264 million yuan, the project relies on abundant local cotton stalk fiber to build a 150,000-tonne/year cotton stalk high-yield clean pulping line and one high-grade packaging paper line. The paper machine is a domestic packaging paper machine that uses self-produced cotton stalk fiber pulp to make high-grade corrugated base paper, with an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes.

On July 19, Dezhou Taiding New Material Technology Co., Ltd.'s 300,000-tonne/year coated white card paper old-to-new growth-driver conversion project achieved a one-time successful startup—the company's first white card paper line. The project is based on the paper machine in its original No. 8 workshop, with a width of 4,800 mm and a speed of 600 m/min, which previously produced about 100,000 tonnes of high-strength corrugated base paper per year.

Building on that line, the new project upgraded the system equipment in the existing production workshop and introduced currently advanced international process equipment and automation control technology, greatly ensuring product quality, further diversifying product varieties, raising product grade and strengthening the company's competitiveness.
