Bottle-to-Film: China’s First Recycled Polyester Film Line Nears Commissioning in Weihui, Xinxiang

In Xinxiang’s Weihui City, the circular economy industrial park is now in the final debugging phase for what is China’s first recycled polyester film production line. The line turns discarded plastics into recycled polyester film, completing a green bottle-to-film loop.

Li Hang, deputy manager of production at Henan Yinda New Material Co., Ltd., told reporters that collected bottles are first cleaned, crushed and sorted on Line 2, after which they become feedstock for this line. Through high-value polyester regeneration and recycling technology, they are processed into recycled polyester film products. Overall, he said, both the range of applications and the product utilization rate have risen.

The Weihui Circular Economy Industrial Park is a provincial key project. After a year of intensive construction, it is now close to official commissioning.

In Plant No. 1, the newly introduced 8.7-meter-wide PETG film line is not only China’s widest recycled polyester film line but also represents the industry’s current leading technical standard. Its capacity can be raised by around 25%. Strong growth in market demand further validates the project’s forward-looking approach.

Zhu Wenzheng, marketing head of Henan Yinda New Material Co., Ltd., said demand for recycled polyester film has grown qualitatively among both domestic and international customers. At present, more than 50% of this line’s capacity is destined for export. The company is still in trial production, yet orders are already booked through the Spring Festival period.

When the project reaches full production, it is expected to comprehensively recycle 200,000 tons of waste plastic each year, reduce carbon emissions by more than 300,000 tons, and help drive green transformation among a group of upstream and downstream manufacturers. To ensure smooth progress, the Weihui municipal government has established a dedicated service team to provide all-round, round-the-clock nanny-style support, with the aim of making long-term enterprise assistance mechanisms effective.

Li Han, deputy director of the Administrative Committee of the Xinxiang Weihui Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone, said the support spans investment and construction, financial services for the park, production, industrial chain attraction, and the landing of other supporting enterprises in the chain. This all-round guidance and linkage service, combined with extended upstream and downstream chains and complete supporting facilities, can help enterprises achieve a good start and lay a solid foundation for the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
