Bosch PACA Advances Chocolate Packaging with Single-Layer Sealed Fold for Protection and Shelf Impact
Bosch PACA is promoting a new triple-protection sealed packaging solution developed for chocolate products, with a focus on bringing sealed fold wrapping into individual packs.
Chocolate makers have long wanted to apply folding packaging to sealed, individual packs. The reason is simple: the process can deliver three benefits at once—longer shelf life, stronger shelf appeal, and lower raw material and energy consumption on the production line.
Folding packaging has led the packaging market for decades. It gives products a more elegant overall look and helps create a distinctive brand selling point. By concealing the fold beneath the chocolate tablet, it lets shoppers open the pack almost like a gift, turning packaging into part of the brand experience.
Yet sealing with only one layer of folding wrapper has always been difficult for chocolate manufacturers. Traditional folding packs for chocolate tablets and bars usually need an extra layer, such as aluminum foil, to create a seal, which adds cost and raises the retail price. That problem has now been addressed: a single layer of oriented polypropylene film can deliver a high level of protection. One of its two main advantages is a reliable seal that shields the product from dust, odors, insects and other external elements.
The second advantage is customization by product size, format and selling point. Manufacturers can choose refined formats such as pillow packs and two-end twist packs (double twist and sealed double twist). They can also switch between traditional folding and sealed folding on the same machine, further cutting costs and improving efficiency.
Choosing and buying the packaging equipment best suited to a specific line is rarely simple. Partnering with a trusted supplier makes the task much easier, because such a supplier knows both the chocolate market and each manufacturer’s unique requirements.
Make chocolate stand out with stronger shelf appeal
Today’s candy counters are packed with hundreds of chocolates in different sizes, shapes and pack colors, and consumers are demanding. The biggest challenge for manufacturers is making their product stand out or win recognition. That is why chocolate packaging matters so much. Shoppers can decide whether to buy within five seconds of seeing a pack, so the right packaging can determine a product’s success.
Folding packaging can strengthen a chocolate maker’s competitive edge. An attractive look and a refined seal improve the overall impression and help the product stand apart on shelf.
Consumers often buy a chocolate on impulse, but manufacturers cannot make decisions casually. They need to think carefully and choose the best packaging for the product.
Working with a trusted supplier makes this easier, since the supplier understands the chocolate market and the distinct needs of each brand. A true partner keeps asking for the manufacturer’s input during procurement and helps develop the best packaging plan to meet business goals.
For example, folding packaging can add elegance, with the fold hidden at the bottom of the chocolate tablet to highlight the product’s pure taste.
Bosch also offers packaging machines with ultrasonic sealing technology. By creating packs with excellent seal integrity, they deliver a high level of product protection—also a key factor in storage and transport.
Chocolate—the food of the gods—deserves sacred, extraordinary packaging
For centuries, chocolate has captivated people worldwide. Today, 40 to 50 million farmers around the world earn a living from growing cocoa, and annual cocoa bean output can reach 3.8 million tons. Processing these brown beans takes significant effort and money, so only sacred packaging is worthy of the food of the gods—packaging that preserves its rich, pure aroma and draws consumer attention.
Folding packaging is now the top choice for major chocolate brands. It has long been known for its pleasing appearance, but until recently, a single-wrapper sealed folding process had not been achieved, leaving products exposed to dust, gas, insects and other external elements.
Manufacturers no longer need to worry. Sapal, part of Bosch Packaging Technology, now offers single-wrapper folding packaging technology with sealing.
To give consumers safe and attractive products, manufacturers can use Bosch’s new packaging technology to create a refined appearance without adding packaging materials or cost.
Bosch also supplies packaging machines with ultrasonic sealing technology. Their strong seals provide a high level of product protection, which is also essential for storage and transport.
Chocolate packaging: the pursuit of flexibility
Summer leaves turn red in autumn, and consumer tastes keep shifting too. When people pull out winter coats and put away beach shorts, the familiar sound of the ice cream truck fades, while the sound of a microwave heating food becomes more appealing. Instead of queuing for their favorite ice cream, they may want a bowl of hot soup.
It is not only ice cream makers that must respond to changing consumer preferences; chocolate manufacturers also need to be ready all year round. From caramel, coconut and strawberry to sea salt, they introduce many variations to satisfy evolving palates.
What does it mean for manufacturers when consumers are happy with their favorite flavors?
Adjusting production processes to match changing tastes is already routine. At the same time, manufacturers seek equipment with higher efficiency, longer runtime and shorter downtime to save production costs.
By choosing an experienced supplier that values equipment flexibility, manufacturers can switch packs quickly and confidently. Sapal, under Bosch Packaging Technology, offers equipment for different packaging needs, including rapid changeovers between multiple formats on one machine and a switch to sealed packaging for high product protection. Chocolate manufacturers can run three styles on the same machine—folding, brush and double twist—with changeover taking only 45 minutes.
The latest single-wrapper sealed folding process gives products high-quality, smooth and crisp packaging without aluminum foil, saving packaging material costs. With the new technology, chocolate manufacturers can also switch between traditional folding and sealed packaging on the same machine, further improving equipment flexibility.
