2021 Global Corrugated Awards Shortlist Series 3: Eco, Material and Application Innovation Highlights
Looking back at 2019, the inaugural Global Corrugated Industry Awards (WCA) quickly attracted industry-wide attention. Corrugated packaging peers worldwide gave their recognition and support, and entries flowed in enthusiastically. After six months of intense competition and strict judging, representatives from six companies and individuals from China, Germany and Saudi Arabia stood out and received their honors before more than 300 guests on site.
This year, the second 2021 Global Corrugated Industry Awards has once again drawn a strong response from the corrugated packaging sector since its launch. Reed Exhibitions, together with global corrugated carton and packaging industry associations, formed the Global Corrugated Industry Awards Organizing Committee. Working with the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the organizers aim to make the competition fair, just and open, and to build it into a highly professional and authoritative platform. For participating companies, the benefits go beyond the honor itself and include substantial added value.
The judging panel brings together leading international packaging experts, including Peter van Ostaijen, Secretary-General of the Belgian Corrugated Board Association (CBA); Varna Sudasna, Vice Chairman of the Thai Packaging Association (TPA); Fabian Oscar Vinderola, packaging expert at Argentina's Cartocor SA; and Cao Cuishuang, Chairman of the Expert Committee of the China International Corrugated Exhibition, among others.

Social Value comprises the Environmental Protection and Intensive Production Contribution Award and the Humanism Practice Award, making eight awards in total.
Many corrugated industry companies have already responded and taken part. To date, the organizers have received hundreds of entries covering products, projects and outstanding corporate manager cases, drawing ongoing interest from readers. Below is another selection of notable shortlisted works.
Social Value Category: Environmental Protection Contribution Award
Shortlisted Company: Klingele Paper & Packaging Group
Nominated Case: AROMAGLUT
Klingele is among the leading independent manufacturers of paper, corrugated board packaging solutions and adhesives. Together with its customer AROMAGLUT, it developed a corrugated packaging solution for barbecue vine charcoal. Thanks to its environmental performance, stability and local design, the cardboard pack is well suited to high-quality consumer goods. The FSC-certified packaging uses 100% renewable raw materials: 90% recycled paper and 10% sustainable forest products. The box is produced with renewable energy and offers excellent recyclability and full biodegradability.
The new design balances practicality with shelf impact. The sturdy, stackable shipping box has a filling weight of 5.6 kg. When delivered to sales partners on pallets, the packaging protects the product reliably. Handling is simple: the vine charcoal requires no stabilizers or outer packaging filler, so it can be cut and boxed immediately. Five-color printing plus gloss varnish generated strong attention at the point of sale and communicated AROMAGLUT's quality standards externally.
